History
Karina Vineyard was originally established in 1984 as one of the earliest wineries on the Mornington Peninsula. We are a small family business producing approximately 2,000 cases of wine per annum. All wines are 100% grown, made and bottled on the estate by vigneron Gerard Terpstra. We are licensed to export world-wide.
Vineyard
The area under vines is 8 acres. For optimum sun exposure, a vertical canopy system is used with the vines planted in a North-South aspect.
All vines are hand pruned only. To optimise fruit quality, minimal organic fertilizer is used. Irrigation is also kept to a minimum.
With the exception of Pinot Noir, all the vines were planted prior to 1990.
Winery
The fermenter capacity of the winery is 30 tonnes (all stainless steel tanks).
For the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, only French oak barrels are used, whilst the Cabernet Merlot is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels.
Most routine quality tests are performed in our own laboratory.
Strict adherence to the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice of the AWRI is followed as well as to the Australian Certified Organic guidelines.
All the wines are sealed with screw cap closures. We can, however, on request use corks instead.
All packed stock is stored fully under our own control in a separate, heavily insulated, warehouse on site.
